Compensation Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Compensation Intern for its Human Resources department, reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Compensation. The intern provides administrative, analytical and coordination support for compensation programs so that pay practices remain equitable and competitive across corporate, retail, distribution and manufacturing positions. The work is done in the corporate office in West Des Moines, IA, and is not eligible for remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare compensation data, reports and summaries to support analysis and decision-making.
• Support compensation surveys by collecting, validating and submitting required data.
• Help Compensation Analysts with wage reviews, job data requests and basic market data research.
• Provide administrative support for the annual compensation planning cycle, including data validation and system setup.
• Support Workday Compensation administration by answering basic questions, routing tickets and keeping data accurate.
• Develop and maintain routine HR and compensation reports, and document process updates and guidelines.
• Gather compliance data, including support for FLSA reviews and pay transparency requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive compensation and employee data.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; actively pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to see detail at near and far range, with or without correction, and normal depth perception.
• Able to perform sedentary work, lift or carry up to 10 pounds occasionally, and stand or walk occasionally.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
