Communications Officer – Security Operations

About the role

The Communications Officer works in the Security Operations Center at Cleveland Clinic, processing incoming and outgoing communications, monitoring surveillance equipment, and providing real‑time situational awareness to support emergency response across the campus.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, record, prioritize and respond to security, police, emergency and routine service calls.
• Monitor cameras, alarms, access‑control systems, panic alarms, infant‑protection alerts and other security technologies.
• Coordinate real‑time incidents involving police, security, fire, EMS and external public‑safety agencies.
• Process confidential employee, patient and public information in accordance with privacy policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED plus two years of experience in a high‑volume communications center, PBX operation or law‑enforcement/security agency.
• Ability to evaluate incomplete or rapidly changing information and make time‑sensitive decisions affecting safety.
• Physical ability to work stationary for extended periods and lift up to 40 lb where required.

Required skills

• PBX operation and radio communications (APCO, NENA standards).
• Video management and surveillance system monitoring.
• Access‑control and alarm system management.
• Computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) and emergency notification platforms.
