Clinical Exercise Physiologist – Per Diem

About the role

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist provides supervised stress testing and exercise assessment for inpatient and outpatient cardiac and high‑risk patients. Working within Lehigh Valley Health Network, you will collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high‑quality diagnostic testing and patient education.

Key responsibilities

• Determine appropriate stress exercise protocols based on medical history, resting EKG, and test indication.
• Supervise patients during various stress testing modalities (treadmill, nuclear, pharmacologic, stress echo, graded cardio‑pulmonary exercise).
• Monitor vital signs, hemodynamic responses, and detect abnormal reactions such as arrhythmias or blood‑pressure changes.
• Document test results, integrate data into physician reports, and recognize when physician presence is required.
• Perform Holter monitor analysis and support onboarding of new staff and interns.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamic response to exercise, and cardiac rhythms.
• Critical thinking, ability to multitask under stress, and strong patient‑education skills.
• ACLS and BLS certification in Pennsylvania; required ACSM or CCRP certification within one year of hire.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Pennsylvania.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – Pennsylvania.
• ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist – Pennsylvania (or equivalent).
• CCRP – Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional Certification – Pennsylvania (or equivalent).
• Proficiency with ECG interpretation and 12‑lead ECG evaluation.
• Use of PC software programs for data entry and reporting.
