Claims Assistant - Workers Compensation (Onsite, Chicago)

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a Claims Assistant for its Chicago, Illinois office, working 100% onsite. The role analyzes reported lower-level workers compensation claims to determine benefits due and ensures ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Adjust medical-only claims and minor lost-time workers compensation claims under close supervision.
• Support other claims representatives, examiners and leads with larger or more complex claims as needed.
• Process workers compensation claims, determine compensability and benefits due, monitor reserve accuracy and file documentation with the state agency.
• Communicate claim action and processing with the claimant, client and medical contacts.
• Keep claim files properly documented and ensure claims coding is correct.
• May process routine payments, prescriptions and status reports for lifetime medical and defined-period medical claims.
• Maintain professional client relationships.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required; licenses as required.
• One year of general office experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; claims industry experience preferred.
• Ability to think clearly, judge well, troubleshoot and solve problems, handle stress and multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Keyboarding and travel as required.
