Controller - Accounting & Financial Operations

About the role

Beach Avenue Financial, a financial operations and business consulting firm, is hiring a Controller to own the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a U.S.-based media and marketing company. The company is currently building its financial infrastructure and documenting its SOPs; once that foundation is in place, the Controller will take over the ongoing finance function end to end, working directly with the owners. The role is full-time, remote, with flexible hours.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly close on an accrual basis, keeping books accurate, complete and closed on time
• Maintain the general ledger and perform bank, credit card and account reconciliations
• Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)
• Keep accounting records in QuickBooks Online or similar platforms
• Prepare and deliver weekly cash flow reports, monitor cash position and flag risks and variances
• Handle accounts receivable: prepare and send invoices, track receivables and keep AR aging reports up to date
• Manage accounts payable, review and code vendor bills, process payments and run authorization workflows on Ramp or similar platforms
• Serve as the main point of contact for the owners, communicate financial results and continuously improve the documented SOPs

Required profile

• 4+ years in accounting or financial operations, including ownership of the month-end close, preferably for U.S.-based businesses
• Strong knowledge of accrual-based accounting and U.S. GAAP
• Hands-on experience with AR, AP, invoicing, payment processing and reconciliations
• Ability to work independently as the primary finance point of contact with minimal supervision
• Nice to have: payroll experience (ADP, Gusto), previous Controller or Assistant Controller role, media/marketing or agency experience, CPA or accounting degree

Required skills

• QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
• Experience with spend management or payment platforms such as Ramp, Rho or Bill.com
• Advanced English and strong Excel skills
