Managing Director, Finance and Operations

About the role

Village Capital, a US-domiciled 501(c)(3) impact investor supporting early-stage companies, is hiring a Managing Director for Finance and Operations. The role reports to the CEO and works with the Managing Director for Impact Investments to drive the organization's financial strategy and operational model. It is full-time and remote, open to candidates in the United States, the United Kingdom or Kenya.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial management, reporting and compliance: automate financial data collection and reporting, prepare monthly and annual statements, dashboards and projections, and manage the investment and grant funding pipeline.
• Run year-end close, annual budgeting and financial planning, oversee annual audits and tax filings (including Form 990).
• Manage cash strategy, restricted and temporary assets, and fiscal sponsorships and re-grants; update product and service financial models and pricing.
• Build and oversee a back office for program-related re-grants, direct investments and fund administration, and support the Managing Director of Impact Investments.
• Maintain internal controls, monitor tax implications of investments, and oversee corporate administration, regulatory and FINRA/SEC filings, and IT and technology budget.
• Ensure compliance with employment law across operating countries, including GEO/PEO relationships, international payroll and entity-level employment obligations.
• Build and supervise finance and fund administration teams, and a human resources team, and foster cross-team communication.
• Oversee banking operations, credit cards, petty cash, third-party bookkeeping and accounting software providers, and procurement of third-party services.
• Support the CEO and Board Treasurer, including co-leading the Board Finance Committee and presenting financial results at quarterly meetings.
• Help design the business model and revenue diversification strategy, and collaborate with the Business Development team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field; CPA, CFA or MBA preferred.
• 7-10+ years of financial management experience, including investment management and organizations with diversified revenue streams.
• 2-3 years in a senior managerial role, supervising teams and third-party providers.
• Experience designing business models and revenue diversification strategies; fundraising track record preferred, with pre-seed, seed and Series A experience welcomed.

Required skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and accounting, financial planning and operations management.
• Ability to build financial projections and models and present to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Working knowledge of HR operations, compensation and employment compliance.
• Position on AI use cases and willingness to engage with firm-wide AI policy.

• Base salary of $160,000-$185,000 (or equivalent in local currency).
