Principal Compliance Associate - Market Surveillance
Kraken · Chypre
Job description
About the role
Kraken's Market Surveillance function detects, investigates and reports market abuse across its regulated trading venues, including spot crypto markets, crypto futures, tokenised equities, OTC markets and consumer trading. As the business grows, the team needs a Principal Compliance Associate to handle its most complex casework and help shape how market abuse is detected and covered.
Key responsibilities
- Own complex investigations end to end, write findings to a standard regulators can rely on and present conclusions to stakeholders
- Lead or contribute to periodic threshold and model reviews, recalibrating surveillance rules and alert thresholds as trading behaviour and products evolve
- Support the design, build-out and integration of surveillance platform capability, including onboarding new products, venues and data sources
- Contribute to market abuse risk assessments, scoring risk across products, jurisdictions and entities and turning findings into surveillance coverage
- Use AI and automation tools responsibly to speed evidence gathering, case reconstruction and detection-model development, with human judgement over the final call
- Support conflicts of interest, information barrier and personal account dealing matters across Markets Compliance, where buy-side or asset management experience is relevant
Required profile
- Experience investigating market abuse or trading conduct in a regulated business such as an exchange, broker-dealer or trading venue
- Track record running investigations end to end, writing regulator-ready findings and presenting to stakeholders
- Working knowledge of core market abuse typologies such as spoofing, wash trading, insider trading and front running
- Clear, evidence-first written communication, as case files and regulatory drafts are often read by auditors and regulators
- Crypto-exposure is welcomed but not required; candidates from traditional securities or derivatives markets are encouraged to apply
Required skills
- Threshold and model calibration, surveillance platform integration, market abuse risk assessments and audit remediation
- Familiarity with a surveillance platform (e.g. Scila, Nasdaq SMARTS, Eventus, NICE Actimize) and comfort with SQL or a similar query tool
- Comfort using generative AI and automation tools in regulated casework
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Candidates with criminal histories may be considered in line with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, and job-related assessments may be used as part of the hiring process.
