Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

About the role

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at AdventHealth Kissimmee Hospital is a registered professional nurse with comprehensive responsibility for the quality and quantity of care delivered to patients. The CNO leads nursing practice, promotes health promotion and education, and works with nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders and other stakeholders. The position is full-time, day shift.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, identify problems and outcomes, plan, implement and coordinate processes affecting care quality and quantity
• Foster health promotion, health teaching and educational services; evaluate outcomes to improve care and population outcomes
• Integrate ethical provisions, research findings and considerations of safety, effectiveness, cost and resource impact into practice
• Advocate for the rights of individuals, families, communities, healthcare providers, nurses and other professions, and act as a role model for AdventHealth's mission and values
• Lead system thinking, build loyalty and commitment, mentor others into leadership, and promote a succession plan for the CNO position
• Take part in workforce planning, recruitment and retention, and interpret employee satisfaction surveys
• Act as a change agent, using change theory to plan and support organizational change
• Build trusting relationships with staff, physicians, vendors, community leaders, legislators and academic providers, and maintain community and academic relations
• Produce persuasive written materials and presentations, and communicate with empathy and credibility
• Apply evidence-based practice, participate in utilization management, case management, quality improvement and risk management, and use knowledge of healthcare economics and payor mix
• Provide strategic oversight of patient and workforce safety, including psychological safety and learning from near-miss events
• Maintain knowledge of DNV/JCACHO, CMS and state nursing regulations, and ensure compliance with state board rules and organization policies

Required profile

• Registered professional nurse
• Adherence to the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice and the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies
• Active participation in at least one professional organization
