Chaplain – Full‑Time Days at Cedar Crest

About the role

The Lehigh Valley Health Network seeks a dedicated Chaplain to provide spiritual assessment and care for patients, families, and staff at its Cedar Crest campus. This full‑time day‑shift position supports individuals during challenging or traumatic situations and contributes to the hospital’s mission of compassionate, patient‑centered care.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a pastoral presence, offering accompaniment and spiritual guidance to patients and families.
• Assess spiritual needs and deliver appropriate interventions, respecting diverse faith traditions.
• Provide crisis support during traumas, difficult decisions, and alerts.
• Participate in interdisciplinary teams such as ethics, palliative, hospice, and oncology.
• Deliver education to students, staff, and volunteers about chaplaincy and spiritual care.
• Offer invocations, blessings, and benedictions at network functions and memorial services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Theology, or a related field.
• Minimum three years experience as a hospital or facilities chaplain.
• Familiarity with a wide range of religious and spiritual beliefs, practices, and denominations.
• Ability to monitor and assess personal and organizational performance for improvement.
• Effective stewardship of time, energy, and resources.

Required skills

• Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a clinical setting (2‑4 units preferred).
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 7 lb, sit for extended periods, and perform frequent fine‑motor tasks.
