Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Certified Pharmacy Technician in its pharmacy department in Bettendorf. The technician supports pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications with accuracy, professionalism and care, working on prescription processing, insurance billing, customer service and inventory. The position is hourly and reports to the Store Director, Store Manager, Pharmacy Department Manager and staff pharmacists.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer simple inquiries and handle customer service
• Accept written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests, and contact doctors' offices to take or request refills
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information and file prescriptions after dispensing
• Assist pharmacists in preparing and labeling prescription containers and preparing prescriptions to be mailed
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing and troubleshooting
• Order, check in and stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices
• Perform cash transactions accurately
• Administer vaccines where allowed by law and with required certification
• Maintain the cleanliness of the pharmacy, keep patient information confidential under HIPAA and follow all pharmacy statutes and regulations
• Help in other store areas as needed and take on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification as a licensed technician through a certified national program, with continuing education kept up to date
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, count, pour, package and label medications, and handle exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps

Employment is contingent on a successful pre-employment drug screen. The pharmacy handles hazardous drugs, so safety training is provided and personnel of reproductive capability are advised of potential risks.
