Cast Technician

About the role

The Cast Technician supports patient care in the Orthopaedics‑Ambulatory Operations department by providing casting, splinting, and related services. The position offers on‑the‑job training and educational resources within a world‑class healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

• Measure, apply, change, remove and repair casts, braces and splints.
• Apply and instruct patients in the use of durable medical equipment.
• Remove dressings, sutures and staples; prepare patients for exams and procedures.
• Identify and report changes in patient status to RN or MD; initiate CPR and emergency measures as required.
• Assist with patient transport, rooming, and health education for patients and families.
• Maintain supplies, stock clinical exam rooms, and ensure equipment is in safe working order.
• Communicate patient concerns to physicians and other caregivers; coordinate resident and nursing in‑service programs.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or Red Cross.
• One year experience as a Cast Technician or related patient‑care role, or graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program.
• Understanding of human anatomy sufficient to perform duties.
• Basic math skills and ability to work standing or sitting for extended periods.
