Cardiac Exercise Physiologist

About the role

The Cardiac Exercise Physiologist will conduct and evaluate exercise stress tests for both outpatients and inpatients, develop individualized exercise prescriptions, and oversee cardiac rehabilitation programs at Florida Weston Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all stress testing in inpatient and outpatient settings, reviewing history and physicals for test appropriateness.
• Recognize contraindications, respond to abnormal patient responses, and refer to medical professionals as needed.
• Perform additional physiological assessments such as cardiopulmonary testing, PFTs, oximetry, and ammonia PET studies.
• Code daily procedures using current Medicare CPT and ICD‑10 guidelines.
• Provide Phase I (inpatient) and Phase II/maintenance (outpatient) cardiac rehabilitation services, including strength, body‑composition, flexibility, balance, and endurance testing.
• Develop and update individual treatment plans, incorporating secondary prevention concepts and lifestyle counseling.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in exercise physiology, kinesiology, nursing or a related field.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American College of Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification within one year of hire.
• 3‑6 months internship or equivalent experience with cardiopulmonary patients.
• Proficiency in 12‑lead EKG interpretation and cardiac arrhythmia recognition.

Required skills

• Cardiopulmonary testing and interpretation (EKG, PFTs, oximetry, ammonia PET).
• Coding of procedures using CPT and ICD‑10.
• Blood pressure, lipid, glucose, and body‑composition assessment.
• Exercise prescription development and adjustment based on patient response.
• Knowledge of cardiac disease processes, pharmacology, and secondary prevention.
