CAD Technician – Junior & Senior

About the role

Volkert is looking for both junior and senior CAD Technicians to support roadway design projects across its Southwest Texas locations, including Austin, Houston, McKinney, Rockwall, Round Rock, San Antonio, and Tyler. The role involves assisting engineers with OpenRoads Designer, creating plan sets, and performing minor design work.

Key responsibilities

• Provide assistance to engineers using OpenRoads Designer to create roadway plan sets.
• Perform minor design work on roadway and bridge projects.
• Prepare dimensions, title sheets, and detail sheets for production sets.
• Conduct mathematical and quantity calculations for projects.
• Develop 3D models in collaboration with engineers.
• Research design codes, guidelines, and options to ensure compliance.
• Coordinate assignments with project teams and supervisors.
• Perform quality‑control reviews of design plans and calculations.
• Support other groups as needed and perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Associate degree from a technical or four‑year school; degree in Computer Aided Drafting or a related field preferred.
• 3–15 years of roadway drafting experience (under 3 years considered if degree is relevant).
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor‑vehicle report.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening.
