Bridge Engineer – Structural Analysis & Asset Management

About the role

HDR is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join its Texas Bridge Team. The role focuses on applying structural engineering principles to evaluate, analyze and document the in‑service condition of bridges and transportation structures, supporting asset management and infrastructure planning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural engineering evaluations of bridges and related transportation structures.
• Perform structural analysis, load rating calculations and engineering assessments using industry‑recognized software.
• Develop detailed engineering reports that summarize analysis results, structural capacity and recommended actions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship and oversight to junior engineers on project teams.
• Collaborate with project managers on scope development, planning, quality control and project delivery.
• Participate in regional and national project assignments as required.
• Conduct on‑site inspections and other duties as needed.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in structural engineering, material behavior and computational analysis.
• Experience with structural asset management systems and load rating software.
• Background working on large‑scale transportation infrastructure projects.
• Physical ability to perform site inspections and lift up to 50 lb.
• Relevant NHI bridge inspection trainings (e.g., NHI 130110, 130055, 130053, 130078) preferred.

Required skills

• Structural analysis and load rating calculations.
• Proficiency with AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM) and Bridge Rating (BrR) tools.
• Experience using BRASS, CANDE, AssetWise, inspectX or similar software.
• Development of analytical models and engineering documentation.
