Bilingual Public Health Nurse II (English/Spanish)

About the role

The Department of Health Services is seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) Public Health Nurse II to join its Trauma‑Informed Approach Public Health Nursing program. You will work directly with pregnant people, parents, and caregivers of children under six who have experienced trauma, providing education, screenings, and linkage to community resources.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct home visits and meetings in community settings to assess and support up to 25 families.
• Provide pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and parenting education.
• Screen adults for depression/anxiety and children for developmental milestones.
• Coordinate referrals to medical, dental, and social service providers and follow up on outcomes.
• Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date client records, action plans, and referral documentation.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and outreach activities to identify new clients.

Required profile

• Current California State Public Health Nursing Certificate.
• At least one year of public health nursing experience after obtaining the certificate.
• Fluent bilingual skills in English and Spanish.

Required skills

• Knowledge of maternal‑child nursing.
• Experience in community, clinic, or public health settings.
• Familiarity with trauma‑informed practices and working with individuals impacted by substance use, homelessness, mental health challenges, or intergenerational trauma.
