Benefits Supervisor

About the role

The Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois (TRS) is looking for a Benefits Supervisor in Springfield, IL. Working under the direction of the Benefits Manager, the supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily work of Benefits Analysts who handle the research, calculation, verification and processing of disability, survivor and reciprocal claims. The salary range is $82,871 to $129,279.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, develop, coach, train and evaluate assigned Benefits staff, giving ongoing feedback on performance, productivity and work quality.
• Direct and coordinate daily workflow in the assigned functional area, assign and balance workloads, monitor productivity and ensure production and service deadlines are met.
• Monitor the accuracy of work and ensure established procedures, policies, statutes, rules and internal controls are followed.
• Act as a technical resource to staff, help resolve complex or non-routine issues and escalate significant issues and recommendations to the Benefits Manager.
• Lead the Survivor and Disability functional area and cross-train in Retirements, Member Accounts and Refunds to support those leaders during peak times.
• Support the Benefits Manager with departmental priorities, procedures, process improvements and special projects.
