Behavioral Health and School Safety Director – Atlanta

About the role

The State of Georgia is establishing a Behavioral Health and School Safety team to implement HB268, the Comprehensive School Safety & Student Well‑being Act. The Director will lead efforts to align school safety plans with state standards, integrate behavioral health into threat assessment processes, and support school climate initiatives across the Atlanta region.

Key responsibilities

• Review, approve, or provide feedback on school safety plans to ensure compliance with state standards.
• Deliver training and technical assistance to schools whose plans need improvement.
• Develop and disseminate training on integrating behavioral health into threat assessment and school climate processes.
• Collaborate with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency on behavioral health and safety matters.
• Partner with the DBHDD Office of Data and Analytics to collect, analyze, and apply BH and school safety statistics.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and data‑driven recommendations for decision‑makers.
• Manage assigned grants and contracts, ensuring compliance and effective use of funds.
• Represent DBHDD in community settings and stakeholder meetings.
• Supervise full‑time BH and School Clinical Specialists and any additional staff funded by state or grant resources.

Required profile

• Current professional licensure or certification required to practice in Georgia.
• Ability to meet pre‑employment health requirements (drug screening, TB test, flu vaccination, etc.).
• Experience managing grants, contracts, and multi‑agency collaborations.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection and reporting.
• Leadership experience supervising clinical or technical staff.
