About the role

Stumptown, a coffee company that sources, roasts, packages and serves coffee, is hiring a barista for its W8th Cafe in New York. Baristas ensure the quality of the coffee from bean to cup, provide exceptional hospitality and quality beverages, and are expected to grow their coffee knowledge and develop a passion for the craft.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare espresso beverages to Stumptown's quality standards and deliver an exceptional customer experience
• Understand coffees, teas, foods, merchandise and promotions to drive sales and give knowledgeable advice to customers
• Maintain a clean and organized store environment
• Taste coffee, tea and specialty beverages regularly to stay familiar with product quality
• Process transactions accurately in the POS system and reconcile the till
• Follow sustainability practices and SOPs for minimizing waste, conserving energy and limiting water use
• Accept other duties as assigned; supervisory responsibilities are none

Required profile

• Demonstrated passion for coffee and willingness to share knowledge with others
• Ability to deliver hospitality personally and professionally, with strong attention to detail, cleanliness and sanitation
• Great communication skills with employees and customers of all backgrounds
• Open to feedback and eager to improve
• Ability to multi-task; early mornings, nights, weekends and extreme reliability required
• Health department license or certification as required by state or local regulations
• Physical demands: standing and walking for shifts, lifting up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, and smelling coffee

• Target base pay of $17.50 to $18.00 depending on experience
