Part-Time Barista

About the role

Stumptown, a coffee company that sources, roasts, packages and serves coffee, is hiring a part-time barista at its Brooklyn café. Baristas ensure the quality of the coffee from bean to cup, provide exceptional hospitality and build a deep knowledge of the products and the craft.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare espresso beverages to Stumptown's quality standards and deliver an exceptional customer experience
• Understand coffees, teas, foods, merchandise and promotions to drive sales and talk knowledgeably with customers
• Keep the store clean and organized and follow SOPs for sustainability, waste minimization, energy conservation and water use
• Taste coffee, tea and specialty beverages regularly to stay familiar with product quality
• Process transactions accurately in the POS system and reconcile the till
• Follow early morning, night, weekend and extreme shift schedules with full reliability

Required profile

• Passion for coffee and a desire to share knowledge about it
• Ability to give personal, professional hospitality and strong attention to detail and cleanliness
• Health department license or certification as required by state or local rules
• Great communication skills, openness to feedback and ability to multi-task
• Able to stand and walk for shifts, lift up to 5 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and detect the smell of coffee
