Autonomous Systems Software Engineer

About the role

Leidos is looking for an Autonomous Systems Software Engineer to build the software that controls next-generation uncrewed underwater vehicles and maritime autonomous systems. The work is hands-on engineering on real platforms in unforgiving environments, not report writing. You will design, write and deploy production software that controls autonomous behavior, vehicle health and mission execution.

Key responsibilities

• Build mission-critical autonomy software in modern C++ and Python on Linux-based systems, translating system intent into testable implementations.
• Architect and evolve scalable autonomy frameworks that are modular, performant and adaptable across vehicle platforms.
• Ship features by developing, integrating and testing new capabilities, with ownership from design through deployment.
• Contribute to technical debates, design reviews and trade studies, and mentor junior engineers.
• Write unit and integration tests, analyze failures and fix root causes.
• Work with systems, hardware and test engineers, and improve tools, workflows and processes in an Agile environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field with 12-15 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 10-13 years.
• Current Secret clearance.
• Experience in Agile or iterative development and clear communication with engineers and stakeholders.

Required skills

• Modern C++ on Linux, with strong fundamentals in performance, memory management and code quality.
• Familiarity with MBSE concepts and tools such as Cameo and MagicDraw.
• Software development in virtualized or containerized environments (VMware, Docker).
• Preferred: polyglot experience, embedded or low-level exposure, autonomy and robotics background, ROS, Protocol Buffers, SCons and VS Code.

The pay range is $131,300 to $237,350.
