Job description
About the role
Leidos is looking for an Autonomous Simulation Software Engineer to build the software and simulation infrastructure behind next-generation uncrewed underwater vehicles and maritime autonomous systems. The role is hands-on software engineering focused on building simulators, modeling complex systems and creating reusable simulation frameworks that let engineers test mission software repeatedly before putting a vehicle in the water.
Key responsibilities
- Build high-fidelity simulation software in C++, Java and Python on Linux to model vehicles, sensors, environments, interfaces and mission behavior.
- Expand the MAGMA-based Simulation Framework with reusable components, interfaces, models, tooling and architectural patterns.
- Increase simulation fidelity by working with autonomy, systems, hardware and test engineers.
- Create simulation environments for autonomy development and testing across nominal, edge-case, degraded and failure scenarios.
- Architect scalable, modular and performant simulation infrastructure and connect it to production software.
- Build tools for scenario generation, instrumentation, data collection, playback, debugging, visualization and automated execution.
- Validate simulations against real data and ship production-quality simulation software.
- Collaborate on technical debates, design reviews and trade studies, and help establish simulation engineering practices.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Engineering or a related field with 8-12 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 6-10 years.
- Current, active Secret clearance.
- Experience developing software to simulate, model, emulate or test complex physical or cyber-physical systems.
- Ability to judge the right level of fidelity and to communicate complex technical ideas to stakeholders.
Required skills
- Solid C++ on Linux, with software architecture, performance, memory management and debugging.
- Linux and containerized environments such as VMware or Docker.
- Preferred: robotics and autonomy, SIL/HIL, simulation frameworks, model validation, scenario and Monte Carlo testing, distributed simulation, polyglot programming (C#, Java, Python, Rust) and embedded systems.
