Assistant Research Scientist – Integrated Microscopy & Imaging Lab

About the role

The Integrated Microscopy and Imaging Lab (IMIL) at Texas A&M University Health Science Center seeks an Assistant Research Scientist to manage daily lab operations, support users with imaging needs, and contribute to research outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the IMIL facility, including instrument scheduling and maintenance.
• Supervise undergraduate student workers and ensure a safe, organized work environment.
• Develop and implement microscopy‑based imaging strategies tailored to investigators’ projects.
• Contribute to and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the core facility.
• Provide image‑science expertise for grant writing, manuscript preparation, and other publications.
• Assist with sample preparation, equipment cleaning, and supply management.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Minimum three years of experience in advanced imaging research.
• Experience working with rodents and handling biological samples.

Required skills

• Optical microscopy, confocal microscopy, slide scanner, multiphoton in‑vivo imaging, TIRF, spinning‑disk confocal, atomic force microscopy.
• Designing imaging experiments for cells, tissues, and cleared specimens.
• Image data analysis using Imaris, QuPath, ImageJ/Fiji, including macro development.
• Knowledge of tissue clearing techniques.
