Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine – Gastroenterology, Endobariatric & Obesity

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Assistant Professor on the clinical track to deliver comprehensive gastroenterology and obesity care. The role combines inpatient and outpatient clinical duties with teaching and multidisciplinary collaboration across UHealth locations and Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct inpatient and outpatient GI care, including endoscopic procedures, at UHealth Towers and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
• Conduct obesity evaluations, prescribe and monitor anti‑obesity medications, and deliver lifestyle and nutritional counseling.
• Perform endobariatric therapies such as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, transoral outlet reduction, sleeve‑in‑sleeve revision, and intragastric balloon placement.
• Round on inpatients, supervise trainees, and participate in teaching activities.
• Take weekly, holiday, and weekend call duties proportionate to other GI providers.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with dietitians, psychologists, surgeons, and obesity medicine physicians.
• Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Gastroenterology with expertise in obesity assessment and management.
• Training in the psychological and nutritional aspects of bariatric medicine.
• Willingness to care for hepatology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Commitment to staying current with emerging endoscopic devices and treatment guidelines.

• Endoscopic procedures (e.g., ESG, intragastric balloon).
• Sedation and airway management.
• Elastography and FibroScan interpretation.
• Body composition and BMI assessment.
• Multidisciplinary care coordination.
