Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology – Regional (General)

About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is expanding and seeks an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology with expertise in regional and acute pain management. The faculty member will join a leading academic medical center and contribute to patient care, education, and research.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and supervise a full spectrum of peripheral and neuraxial nerve block techniques.
• Manage acute pain and acute‑on‑chronic pain patients in an inpatient setting.
• Supervise residents and fellows, providing hands‑on training and mentorship.
• Teach medical students, residents, and fellows in regional anesthesia and pain management.
• Participate in departmental conferences, faculty meetings, and academic activities.
• Provide on‑call coverage one week per month, including weekend inpatient rounding and occasional nerve block procedures.

Required profile

• US‑approved residency in Anesthesiology (or equivalent).
• Board eligibility or certification in Anesthesiology.
• Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management, or substantial experience in the field.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise trainees and perform procedures independently.
• Research experience is highly desirable.

• Superficial and deep cervical plexus blocks
• Interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, elbow, and wrist blocks
• Femoral nerve, adductor canal, fascia iliaca blocks
• Sub‑gluteal sciatic, lateral popliteal sciatic, IPACK, TAP, rectus sheath blocks
• PEC1, PEC2, ESP, and stellate ganglion blocks
• Catheter placement for continuous regional anesthesia
• Acute pain management in inpatient settings
