Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology, Cardiac

About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is expanding and seeks an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology with a cardiac focus. The role involves delivering high‑quality peri‑operative care for cardiothoracic and vascular patients across two major hospitals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anesthesia for a broad spectrum of cardiothoracic cases, including valve repair/replacement, CABG, adult congenital procedures, aortic reconstruction, and major vascular surgeries.
• Manage general anesthesia cases in orthopedics, gynecology, ENT, abdominal surgery, and kidney transplants.
• Participate in the Miami Transplant Institute’s heart and lung transplant program, ventricular assist device placement, and ECMO support.
• Contribute to the growing percutaneous/structural heart program, including TAVR, mitral clip, and Watchman procedures.
• Engage in teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activities as appropriate.

Required profile

• US‑approved residency in Anesthesiology.
• One year of Cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship training.
• Board eligibility or certification in Anesthesiology.
• TEE board certification or Testamur status.
• Research experience is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) proficiency.
• Cardiothoracic anesthesia expertise.
• General anesthesia for diverse surgical specialties.
• Experience with ECMO (VV and VA) support.
• Knowledge of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral clip, and Watchman procedures.
