Assistant Professor – Behavioral Ecology

About the role

The Department of Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Behavioral Ecology to develop an independent, externally funded research program, teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to departmental service.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a vigorous, extramurally funded research program (approximately 50% of effort).
• Teach graduate courses aligned with the candidate’s specialty and an introductory biology course for undergraduates (approximately 50% of effort).
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Participate in service activities related to research, teaching, and departmental duties.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent in biological sciences, ecology, or a related field.
• Successful record of independent research in behavioral ecology or animal behavior.
• Evidence of potential to secure extramural funding.
• Demonstrated excellence or potential in teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Required skills

• Strong background in behavioral ecology, animal behavior, or related disciplines.
• Ability to develop and manage externally funded research projects.
