Academic Advisor I

About the role

The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to students on university policies, degree requirements, and course selection, helping them stay on track to achieve their educational goals. The role also supports orientation, registration, and connects students with campus resources.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and counsel students for Fall, Spring, and Summer course selections and analyze student records for advising appointments.
• Provide individualized support for graduation planning, major changes, academic standing, probation, and at‑risk student populations.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to coordinate advising efforts and make referrals to appropriate university offices.
• Maintain accurate records of student information, curriculum plans, and advising communications.

Required profile

• Knowledge of university policies, academic requirements, campus resources, and student support services.
• Strong interpersonal and human‑relations skills with sensitivity to a diverse student population.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and act as an advocate for both students and the university.

Required skills

• Familiarity with student information systems.
• Ability to identify student needs and make appropriate referrals.
