Arborist – Tree Care and Preservation Specialist

About the role

The Arborist is responsible for the health and appearance of more than 5,000 large trees across roughly 470 acres. The role involves leading a crew, ensuring safe operation of arborist equipment, and protecting historic Live Oaks.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and assist a crew in tree trimming, pruning, fertilization, aeration, mulching, removal and replacement, coordinating schedules with landscape superintendents.
• Plan, document, and manage Live Oak protection activities, including material acquisition and inter‑departmental communication.
• Supervise use, preventative maintenance, and training on boom trucks, chipper trucks, stump grinders, chainsaws, spray rigs and other arborist equipment.
• Identify tree diseases and pests, oversee herbicide and pesticide applications in compliance with regulations.
• Manage a tree stock nursery for replacement and propagation.

Required profile

• Current Louisiana Arborist license (or six semester hours in horticulture, forestry, turf or tree surgery) and at least two years of tree care experience.
• Valid driver’s license, motor‑vehicle record check, and eligibility for drug screening.
• Ability to work in a safety‑sensitive, emergency‑essential position and pass background checks.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of tree health, disease identification, and pest management.
• Proficiency with arborist equipment: boom trucks, chipper trucks, stump grinders, chainsaws, spray rigs.
• Experience supervising crews and coordinating large‑scale tree maintenance projects.
