Aircraft Certification Engineer – Avionics/Software Systems

About the role

AVTECH Global is seeking an experienced Aircraft Certification Engineer to lead avionics and software system certification for a military commercial derivative aircraft. You will act as the technical authority, aligning FAA Part 25 requirements with MIL‑HDBK‑516C standards and coordinating with government and prime‑contractor stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide SME‑level expertise on avionics systems, embedded software, and certification processes.
• Develop, review, and execute certification plans, including ICAs, test plans, and compliance checklists.
• Interface with FAA, military airworthiness authorities, and DER/DAR representatives to secure approvals.
• Identify and resolve gaps between civil and military airworthiness requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and improve internal certification tools and best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, computer, electrical engineering or related field.
• 15+ years of aircraft certification experience, especially with avionics/software systems and FAA type or STC programs.
• Ability to pass a Tier 1 DoD investigation; existing security clearance preferred.
• FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) authorization in one or more disciplines.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of 14 CFR Part 25, RTCA DO‑178C, RTCA DO‑254, and MIL‑HDBK‑516C.
• Experience creating certification documents such as ICAs, ground/flight test plans, compliance checklists, and project‑specific certification plans.
• Program management and effective communication for coordinating certification modifications.
