AI Machine Learning Engineer Intern (BS)

About the role

Lilly’s Advanced Intelligence & Research team is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern to contribute to AI-driven solutions that accelerate clinical development. You will work on a scoped project with real business impact alongside experienced engineers and research scientists.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, train, and evaluate machine learning models on clinical and real‑world data.
• Build and scale data pipelines and infrastructure to move models from notebooks to production.
• Write production‑quality Python code and integrate models with AI agents or generative AI applications.
• Collaborate with data engineers, research scientists, and clinical partners to deliver project outcomes.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related field, completing junior year by June 2027.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Strong interest in healthcare or life‑science applications of machine learning.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Experience with at least one ML/DL framework (PyTorch, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow).
• Fundamental machine‑learning knowledge and hands‑on model training.
• Experience with large language models, prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation, or Model Context Protocol.
• SQL proficiency; familiarity with Spark, PySpark or Databricks is a plus.
• Exposure to AWS services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, S3, or Lambda.
• Knowledge of MLOps tools (MLflow, Weights & Biases) and Git version control; Docker familiarity is a plus.
