Advanced Practice Provider – Congenital Heart Surgery

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider will join Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute to deliver comprehensive care for pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease. The role spans pre‑operative evaluation, intra‑operative assistance, post‑operative coordination, and outpatient follow‑up.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough histories, physical exams, and order/interpret labs, imaging, and cardiographic studies.
• Assist in the operating room and provide peri‑operative surgical support.
• Coordinate post‑operative care, discharge planning, and outpatient follow‑up.
• Educate patients and families about disease, treatment plans, and medication side effects.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and quality‑monitoring activities.

Required profile

• Graduate of an A.R.C.‑approved Physician Assistant program or Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies (or equivalent NP education).
• Current state licensure to practice and prescribe, DEA registration, and BLS certification.
• For NPs: Acute Care or Family NP certification plus RNFA or CNOR credential.
• Credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee of the hospital.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) as required.
• Operating room experience with surgical assistance.
• RNFA or CNOR certification.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.
