Advanced Practice Provider – Acute Care NP/PA/CNS for SICU III

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Health System seeks an experienced Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Fairview Hospital. The role provides high‑acuity care for patients undergoing general surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, and open‑heart procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive histories, perform physical exams, and order/interpret labs, radiology, and other diagnostic tests.
• Lead rapid response, code, and stroke alerts; admit patients to the ICU and perform specialized procedures such as intubation, arterial line and central venous catheter placement, ventilator management, IV starts, and blood draws.
• Collaborate with a supervising physician, participate in medical team rounds, and serve as a liaison for multidisciplinary care.
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, preventive health, and medication side effects.
• Precept PA/APRN students, onboard new employees, and may serve as faculty for training.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited MSN/ACNP program (for APRN) or an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant program.
• Current state licensure and national certification (APRN or PA) with prescriptive authority or eligibility within six months.
• Two years of relevant clinical experience preferred; new graduates with at least two years ICU experience will be considered.
• Certification in BLS and ACLS required; ENLS, Fundamental Critical Care Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support preferred.
