Adult Education Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a motivated Adult Education Intern to support its adult education program for refugees, asylees, and immigrants in northern New Jersey. This unpaid, on‑site internship offers hands‑on experience in classroom administration, data management, and client support within a humanitarian context.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with on‑site intake and enrollment procedures.
• Administer and grade pre‑tests and post‑tests, documenting results.
• Support instructors and learners with attendance tracking, technical assistance, and class schedule updates.
• Maintain client communication logs and follow‑up on attendance.
• Provide substitute instruction and classroom management as needed.
• Guide clients to additional community education programs.
• Use interpretation lines for multilingual communication.
• Enter data and generate reports in internal databases and Microsoft spreadsheets.
• Conduct course feedback surveys with clients.

Required profile

• Interest in refugee resettlement and adult education.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and diverse learners.
• Basic proficiency in English and willingness to use interpretation tools.
