Accounting and Claims Associate

About the role

Howden Re, a global reinsurance broker, is hiring a full-time Accounting and Claims Associate in Edina, MN. The role works with clients who have suffered a loss and with reinsurers to move claims through to settlement and fund delivery. Compensation is listed as up to $65,000 per year, with an application deadline of 18 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Receive initial loss notices, loss status updates and proofs of loss from clients and forward them to reinsurers
• Confirm coverage under treaty review contract wording for retention and limit, LAE treatment, loss reporting requirements and loss attachment basis
• Prepare and review loss calculations for accuracy and compliance with contract terms
• Process claims transactions in the accounting and claims system and track reinsurer settlement status, following up on payments and forwarding collected funds to clients
• Attend client claims audits as needed and perform reinsurance accounting for selected client accounts, providing backup coverage for others
• Review new contract wordings, monitor reporting and payment due dates, and request premiums and accounts from clients
• Prepare reporting forms and adjustment calculations, and assist clients with Schedule F funding requirements and obtaining Letters of Credit from reinsurers
• Monitor the brokerage revenue forecast, reinsurer approvals and the reinsurer database

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Associates degree graduating between December 2026 and May 2027
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Legal authorization to work in the United States
• Proven team player with excellent communication and organizing skills, strong attention to detail and solid analytical acumen

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel
• Understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles
