Associate Director, Catastrophe Analytics R&D

About the role

Howden Re is a global reinsurance broker and risk, capital and strategic advisor. As Associate Director on its Catastrophe Analytics R&D team, you will advise clients on managing catastrophe risk, with time split roughly 25-50% on client service and 50-75% on research and development. You will join a collaborative, results-driven analytics team.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out all aspects of catastrophe modeling, including data preparation and validation, portfolio analysis and postprocessing, reporting, data visualization and mapping
• Answer queries from internal and external stakeholders on property exposure data, real-time catastrophe events, model validation, risk views, portfolio profitability and optimization
• Use proprietary software to design and manage catastrophe reinsurance programs
• Validate and adjust catastrophe models using external data sources
• Build strong relationships with colleagues, clients and reinsurers

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience in catastrophe modeling and risk management
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Meteorology or a related field
• Knowledge of property insurance and reinsurance; ARe designation is a plus
• Legal authorization to work in the US

Required skills

• Proficiency in data analysis, manipulation and visualization tools and programming languages such as SQL, Excel, R, Python and Power BI
• Experience with catastrophe modeling software such as Verisk Touchstone and RMS RiskLink, and understanding of model methodology, uses and limitations
• Strong organization, communication and client relationship skills

What we offer

• Expected compensation of up to $175,000 plus a discretionary bonus
