Accountant 1 or Accountant 2 – State Financing & Investment

About the role

The Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission (GSFIC) is seeking qualified accountants to support its financial operations. Candidates may be hired as Accountant 1 (paraprofessional) or Accountant 2 (professional) and will work under general supervision within a large state agency.

Key responsibilities

• Process accounts payable and receivable, code and post transactions, and reconcile general ledger entries.
• Review and enter reimbursement requests in the PeopleSoft Construction system, maintain filing, and communicate payment status to agencies.
• Prepare standard financial reports, conduct quality‑assurance reviews, and support internal and external auditors.
• Apply GAAP, state and federal guidelines, and agency fiscal policies to all accounting activities.

Required profile

• For Accountant 1: Undergraduate accounting degree or one year state accounting experience with PeopleSoft; alternatively, two accounting courses or Carl Vinson certification.
• For Accountant 2: Undergraduate business degree with intermediate accounting coursework plus one year staff‑accountant experience, or five years state accounting experience with PeopleSoft.
• High school diploma/GED with at least two years bookkeeping or accounting experience is also acceptable.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and pass background, motor‑vehicle and drug checks.
