Wildland Firefighter/Ranger – Georgia Forestry Commission

About the role

An exciting career in wildland firefighting awaits you with the Georgia Forestry Commission. You will protect Georgia’s forest resources, respond to fire emergencies, and work as part of a dedicated team in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining buildings, grounds, and firefighting equipment.
• Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment.
• Operate fire engines, hose lays, and commercial‑class transport vehicles.
• Operate medium to heavy‑duty crawler tractors for fire suppression and fire‑break construction.
• Inspect property for compliance with fire‑related laws, codes, and regulations.
• Prepare reports and conduct fire‑prevention campaigns.
• Respond to fire calls, accidents, and other emergencies, including after‑hours on‑call duty.
• Participate in reforestation, community, and school forestry programs.

Required profile

• Class A CDL learner’s permit (or CDL) prior to hire and ability to obtain a CDL within 12 weeks.
• Pass background investigation, medical evaluation, and physical‑fitness testing (including the Moderate Work Capacity Test).
• Pass the annual Physical Agility Test or Moderate Work Capacity Test.
• Reside within 45 minutes of the White Plains, GA work location.

Required skills
