Veterinary Technician – Food Animal (Level 1‑3)

About the role

The Large Animal Hospital at LSU provides 24/7 patient care for food‑producing livestock. We are seeking Veterinary Technicians (levels 1‑3) to deliver technical support to faculty, house officers, and veterinary students across the Food Animal department.

Key responsibilities

• Assist faculty and students with appointments, emergency cases, medical procedures, and inpatient treatments.
• Handle, restrain, load, unload, admit, transfer and discharge large‑animal patients safely.
• Prepare, clean, disinfect and restock examination and treatment areas before and after procedures.
• Provide patient monitoring, hourly assessments, and administer prescribed treatments.
• Support the Isolation Unit, Large Animal Intensive Care Unit, teaching herd and equine services.
• Communicate with clients, collect accurate patient information, and assist with after‑hours emergency care.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with safe handling and restraint of livestock.
• Ability to instruct veterinary students in proper animal‑handling techniques.
• Commitment to hospital infection‑prevention and biosecurity protocols.
• Flexibility to work across multiple units and during after‑hours operations.
• Capability to work with minimal supervision while adhering to safety policies.
