Team Lead Substation (Remote)

About the role

Atwell, a consulting, engineering and construction firm serving real estate, land development and energy clients, is hiring a Team Lead Substation for its NEI practice as a remote role. The lead oversees a team that produces full detailed-design packages for electric power substations, from general arrangements and structure design to bus and connection details, bills of materials, permitting and construction details.

Key responsibilities

• Manage design activities, project planning, team scheduling and coordination between disciplines, and coordinate with Directors on workload forecasting, milestones and ETC hours.
• Track weekly budgets and project finances, mitigate project risks, and guide the team on NEI processes, standards and policies.
• Review team members' work for quality, accuracy and adherence to NEI and client standards, and resolve technical issues.
• Develop engineering cost estimates, schedules and assumptions for change orders, and prepare cost estimates, budget reports and proposals.
• Support business development, marketing, project proposals and client relationships.
• Coach and mentor engineers, designers and drafters, and maintain expert knowledge of NEI QA/QC processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering or a similar field.
• 5+ years of engineering or relevant experience.
• FE license required; PE preferred.
• Expertise in physical substation design (clearances, one-line and three-line diagrams, bus configurations, control buildings, equipment selection, HV and EHV); structural substation knowledge is a plus.
• Ability to stamp drawings highly preferred.
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Required skills

• AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE codes and standards, and local regulations.
• Mentoring and coaching ability, strong communication and decision-making skills.
