Summer 2027 Economic Research Intern

About the role

The Economic Research Internship provides a summer research opportunity within the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Interns work alongside economists and research assistants on projects spanning macroeconomics, microeconomics, financial economics, community development, and regional research. The 12‑week program is paid and designed to develop quantitative, analytical, and writing skills.

Key responsibilities

• Support economists in basic and applied research, including data collection and moderately complex statistical analysis.
• Assist with research and analysis of policy issues and events.
• Prepare charts, tables, and descriptive text for staff economists and department management.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing at least a Bachelor’s degree (graduating Fall 2027 or later) in economics, finance, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
• Evidence of quantitative and analytical aptitude through research experience.
• Some exposure to data/programming languages such as Stata, R, Python, MATLAB, or ArcGIS.
