Substitute Preschool Teacher (Head Start)

About the role

The Substitute Preschool Teacher provides coverage for a Head Start classroom serving children ages 3 to 4. Working alongside another teacher, you will help maintain a nurturing environment that promotes school readiness and supports families across the county.

Key responsibilities

• Follow the Head Start curriculum and maintain required adult‑child ratios.
• Plan and implement learning experiences that develop literacy, numeracy, language, and problem‑solving skills for 3‑4‑year‑old children.
• Maintain a safe, healthy environment and use positive guidance to support social‑emotional development.
• Engage families and foster relationships between children and their caregivers.
• Collaborate with co‑teacher and center staff, adhering to health, safety, and nutrition policies.
• Report attendance promptly and communicate schedule changes to the Center Director and specialists.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a physical exam and background checks.
