Substance Use Disorder Counselor / Case Worker

About the role

The SUD Counselor / Case Worker supports clients in achieving a chemical‑free lifestyle, guiding them through recovery and helping them explore healthier patterns of behavior.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a schedule of regular and crisis counseling appointments.
• Complete bio‑psycho‑social assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Document progress through notes, reports, and discharge summaries.
• Participate in weekly case conferences, treatment team meetings, and monthly training sessions.
• Serve as liaison with probation, parole, DPSS, EDD, DVR, insurance providers, and attend occasional court appearances.
• Facilitate groups, educational classes, and provide family support sessions.

Required profile

• Registered or certified with CADTP, CAADE, or CCAPP, or hold a master's level BBS registration.
• Experience working in substance use disorder treatment and familiarity with NA/AA 12‑step programs.

Required skills

• Ability to identify behavioral patterns common to the client population.
• Strong oral and written communication for documentation and client interaction.
• Knowledge of counseling techniques to educate, elicit feelings, and motivate clients.
• Case management skills to coordinate continuum of care.
