Structural Engineer - Power and Energy

About the role

Atwell, a consulting, engineering and construction firm serving real estate, land development and energy markets, is hiring a Structural Engineer for its power generation and delivery business. The engineer supports the project team with structural analysis and design of structural steel and concrete foundations for solar, BESS and substation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design structural steel and concrete foundations for utility-scale solar, BESS and substation projects
• Lead engineering from initiation to completion, working with drafters, designers and engineers to finalise drawings and packages
• Draft, review and finalise deliverables such as master deliverable lists, design criteria, reports, specifications, bills of materials and proposals
• Review designs for code compliance, client standards, constructability and best practice, and coordinate with civil, electrical and other disciplines
• Report workload to the Project Manager and Discipline Manager and help prepare bid proposals, technical scopes and cost estimates
• Occasional travel (less than 20%) for site visits, walkdowns or client meetings

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license required
• Strong communication, leadership and teamwork skills; ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
• Experience with power systems equipment such as PV modules, inverters, racking, batteries, BMS/EMS, switchgear and transformers

Required skills

• Structural design software such as ROBOT, RISA 3D, RISA Foundation, L-PILE, MFAD or Hilti PROFIS Engineering Suite
• Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, Teams, AutoCAD and Bluebeam
• Ability to build custom design tools, calculation sheets and report templates in Mathcad or Excel
• Knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 113, ACI 318, ACI 336.1, AISC 360, IEEE and NEC
• Revit, PVcase, Civil 3D and transmission line tools (PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER) are a plus
