Staff Toxicologist – NIEHS Literature Review

About the role
As a Staff Toxicologist you will support the development of systematic evidence maps, literature reviews and health hazard assessments for environmental and public health programs. You will work closely with senior scientists and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate toxicological data and contribute to technical reports and peer‑reviewed publications that inform federal decision‑making.
Key responsibilities
- Support systematic reviews, evidence synthesis, and health hazard assessment activities.
- Evaluate and interpret toxicological, epidemiological, mechanistic and exposure data from human, animal and in‑vitro studies.
- Conduct study screening, data extraction, quality evaluation and weight‑of‑evidence assessments.
- Contribute to systematic evidence maps, scoping reviews and review protocols.
- Draft technical reports, scientific manuscripts and other project deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure scientific rigor and quality.
- Participate in client interactions, technical meetings and peer‑review processes.
- Utilize literature review technologies, evidence management tools and data visualization methods.
Required profile
- Master’s degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD with at least 4 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combinations).
- Experience conducting systematic reviews, evidence syntheses, or health hazard assessments.
- Strong background in toxicology, epidemiology, mechanistic or exposure science.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Preferred candidates located in the Raleigh‑Durham‑Chapel Hill, NC area.
