Senior Software Engineer – Autonomy for Maritime Systems

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Autonomy Capabilities team, you will design and implement advanced autonomy features for unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and cooperating UAVs. The work focuses on maritime missions, enabling teams to search, localize, and pursue targets while maintaining safety and compliance with maritime regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop robust motion‑planning algorithms that respect safety constraints such as keep‑out volumes, depth limits and COLREGS.
• Implement cutting‑edge localization and tracking solutions using sensor fusion and observability‑aware maneuvers.
• Design distributed optimization and task‑allocation methods for heterogeneous multi‑agent collaboration.
• Produce high‑performance, well‑tested software modules ready for mid‑to‑high TRL integration.
• Collaborate with perception, planning, simulation, hardware and test teams to ensure seamless deployment on real platforms.
• Support field integration, demonstration events and post‑mission analysis to validate system performance.
• Contribute to autonomy road‑maps through research, prototyping and identification of capability gaps.

Required profile

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Strong background in robotic control systems, motion planning, optimization, tactical behaviors or distributed decision‑making.
• Experience with unmanned system technologies, preferably in the maritime domain.
• Familiarity with simulation tools such as AFSIM, NGTS or similar.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
