Senior Roadway Engineer (Team Lead)

About the role

RDA is expanding its Blacksburg office and seeks an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer to lead a team of roadway professionals. You will provide technical oversight on complex transportation projects while mentoring engineers and shaping the growth of the team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead roadway design efforts, overseeing plans, specifications, estimates, and deliverables.
• Manage and develop staff through day‑to‑day leadership, mentorship, and performance coaching.
• Conduct plan reviews and QA/QC to ensure compliance with VDOT standards.
• Assist with resource planning, workload balancing, and task assignments.
• Promote technical excellence by mentoring engineers and sharing best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
• 6‑10 years of roadway engineering and transportation design experience.
• Virginia PE license (or ability to obtain it quickly).
• Strong knowledge of VDOT standards and project delivery processes.
• Proven experience leading technical design efforts and performing QA/QC.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
