Senior Network Engineer (NE3) – Government

About the role

AT&T Global Public Sector seeks an accomplished Principal Network Engineer to serve as the senior technical lead on a large government contract. This full‑time onsite position in Columbia, MD involves handling the most complex network support and troubleshooting tasks, acting as the final escalation point for critical incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, design, and enhance networking infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, DNS and DHCP services.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and contingency plans for network failures.
• Lead capacity planning, technology evaluation, and large‑scale network upgrade projects from design through deployment.
• Provide expert consulting and technical guidance to review boards, senior managers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure compliance with government policies and maintain thorough documentation.

Required profile

• 12+ years of experience in similar programs and contracts.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or 4 additional years of network engineering experience).
• TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SSCP).
• Current CCIE or equivalent certification.

Required skills

• Deep familiarity with routers, switches, firewalls, DNS, DHCP.
• Hands‑on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Brocade equipment.
• Network architecture design and large‑scale implementation.
• Technical leadership and mentorship abilities.
