Senior Backend DevOps Engineer (Remote Opportunity)

About the role

VetsEZ is seeking a Senior Backend DevOps Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Joint Longitudinal Viewer program. This 100% remote role focuses on operating containerized microservices in AWS ECS and ensuring secure, compliant, highly available cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and optimize Amazon ECS deployments, including scaling, task definitions, health checks, and blue/green strategies.
• Design, maintain, and improve enterprise‑grade CI/CD pipelines for containerized microservices.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code aligned with VA Enterprise Cloud standards and support multi‑region high availability in AWS GovCloud.
• Build and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response processes.
• Implement security controls for FedRAMP High, NIST 800‑53, FISMA, and VA compliance, integrating them into CI/CD workflows.
• Develop operational runbooks, backup/recovery procedures, and support production issue triage.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
• Experience operating containerized microservices on AWS ECS in a government or healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of AWS networking, IAM, security groups, and multi‑region disaster recovery.
