Senior Automation Engineer

About the role

Amazon’s Reliability & Maintenance Engineering team is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to drive equipment reliability and performance across its fulfillment centers. You will lead automation initiatives, troubleshoot complex control systems, and mentor junior engineers while working with cutting‑edge material handling technology.

Key responsibilities

• Provide subject‑matter expertise for troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of automation issues.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Software, and Safety teams to optimize MHE systems and implement projects.
• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, motor and servo drives, and electrical distribution.
• Monitor material handling metrics, analyze performance data, and drive continuous improvement.
• Offer escalation support both onsite and remotely, ensuring minimal downtime of critical assets.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in industrial automation and control systems.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and mentor engineers.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on reliability and throughput.

Required skills

• PLC programming and PC controller expertise
• Industrial Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus
• Motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives
• Electrical distribution systems
• SCADA systems and HMI development
• Experience with conveyors, sortation, scanners, cameras, and print‑apply equipment
