Security Officer 2

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Security Officer 2 to help maintain a safe and secure environment across its health system campuses. This full‑time, onsite position involves patrolling facilities, responding to alarms, and providing excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to prevent and investigate criminal activity.
• Monitor and respond to security, fire and environmental alarms, and assist with follow‑up as needed.
• Notify local police when backup is required and investigate suspicious persons or activities.
• Control traffic, direct drivers and manage access points after verifying identities.
• Check surveillance cameras periodically, submit reports of unusual occurrences, and secure exits, doors and windows after operations.
• Handle disruptive individuals using verbal intervention techniques; physical intervention may be required for combative persons.
• Operate University vehicles in compliance with university policies and maintain accurate incident documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of relevant security experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
